Madagán’s crown
Cavehill, or Beann Mhadagáin, stands tall over Belfast. Named after Matudán mac Muiredaig, an ancient king of Ulster; the park is said to hide the crown of his kingdom somewhere amongst its beautiful landscape. This photo-book explores, across the 4 seasons, an intimate look into where it may lie.
This project began solely as a means for me to test out battered vintage cameras that I had tried my hand at repairing. From there, it grew into a greater appreciation of the park that lies minutes from my home, and soon I decided to produce a body of work capturing it.
Having shot the project mostly on 120 film, with a few 35mm shots here and there, I had to be very careful with what I chose to shoot, aiming to present the park, which has had a significant place throughout my life, at its most beautiful.
